Pills, Pills, Pills

Wow, I didn't mean to be gone so long.  I guess it's true that life is what happens when you make other plans.  A lot has happened on the treatment front since my last post. Aubagio has been approved by the FDA.  The big plus?  Fewer side effects.  The not so happy news? The relapse rate is worse than Rebif and some other options out there. Still, I get it when doctors say this could provide … [Read more...] about Pills, Pills, Pills

MS Activist

I am an MS activist. I have to admit, I haven't thought of myself as an activist.  I had a stereotypical picture in my head of an activist, leading protests, marching around with signs, organizing sit-ins, that sort of stuff.  But the term has evolved to include so much more.   Sitting down for a one-on-one meeting, making a phone call, sending an email are also ways to make your views known to … [Read more...] about MS Activist

So basically, mindfulness is the exact opposite of where I am.  How do I get … [Read more...] about Mindfulness

Legacy

I went to a funeral today for a young man who had dealt with health problems for over 20 years. I was moved to tears as family and friends talked about how inspirational he was. He never complained, he never asked "Why me", he just played with the cards he was dealt and handled his situation with grace and faith. As I listened, I thought about how my family and friends would characterize how … [Read more...] about Legacy

My Experiences With Mobility Devices

While I haven’t used all of the possible mobility aids out there, I have become familiar with several. Foot Up – Device used to help counter foot drop. It’s pretty simple – you put one part of it into your shoe and the other part around your leg, and the two parts clip together. When you’re walking, the tension between the two pieces helps to lift up your toes, so you’re less likely to scuff … [Read more...] about My Experiences With Mobility Devices

Life’s a Beach…Or Not

It's summer, and thoughts in North Carolina turn to the beach.  Some folks have bought a house and moved there for most of the season.  Others rent a place for a week or two, or even just a weekend, so that they can join in the fun. For folks with MS, the beach can bring out a whole new series of thoughts.  It's hot, the bathroom's far away, and sand brings a whole new set of mobility … [Read more...] about Life’s a Beach…Or Not
