A little can mean a lot

First off, shout out to Jerimi, for reminding me about NaBloPoMo!  Ack, September started without me.

I got reminded today why I am proud to be a North Carolinian.  There’s a wonderful story that’s gone viral that took place in a NC restaurant.  A family was eating out in a restaurant when an 8-year-old boy got upset and frustrated because he was hungry. As the mom of two boys, I’m well aware of what children are like when hungry and kept waiting.  Well, this little boy is epileptic and non-verbal, so the only way he could show his frustration was through screaming and throwing a phone.  It’s no surprise that people turned to see what was going on.

And one of the patrons reacted.

A waitress came over to the table and told the family that their meal had been paid for, and the man who paid had written them a note.  God only gives special children to special people.  The mother, who had been worried that they had been disturbing the other customers, melted into tears.  She had been so frazzled by the demands of the previous month, but that note was exactly the boost she needed.

Eight words.  That was all it took for an anonymous angel to change so many lives.  He didn’t just touch that family with his gesture, he’s touched all of us who have been moved by the story.  Eight words.  That was all it took to bring a spark of hope.  What a wonderful service to others.

Stories like this remind me that it’s not only grand gestures that can change the world.  Eight words and a pizza dinner was all it took for that one man to make a big change.  What small gestures can I make?  The ones that might seem small might have a bigger result than expected.
